- The Talent Search
1.1. Leeds West Indian Carnival in conjunction with RJC Dance (LWIC) is conducting a Talent Search for local talent (“Talent Search”) with the successful applicant(s) joining the LWIC events and supporting the presentation and entertainment team as follows:
(a) 18 year and over applicant(s) to present with a celebrity compere at the King and Queen show to be held from 7 pm at the Royal Armouries on Friday 23rd August 2019;
(b) applicant(s) between 10 – 17 years to present with the adult presenter at the Prince and Princess show to be held from 2 pm at the Leeds West Indian Centre on Sunday 18th August 2019;
(c) over 18 year applicant(s) with general entertainment talents to perform at the King and Queen show to be held from 7 pm at the Royal Armouries on Friday 23rd August 2019;
(d) applicant(s) between 0-17 years with general entertainment talents to perform at the Prince and Princess show to be held at from 2 pm at the Leeds West Indian Centre on Sunday 18th August 2019.
- How to enter
2.1. Entries for the Talent Search can be made by sending a completed entry form which will be available on LWIC’s website (www.leedcarnival.co.uk) to firstname.lastname@example.org.
2.2. Entries can be submitted from 9 am on 5th June 2019 to 5 pm 21st June 2019 (the “Closing Date”) inclusive.
2.3. All Talent Search entries received after the Closing Date shall be automatically disqualified.
2.4. LWIC will not accept responsibility for Talent Search entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in transit, regardless of cause.
2.5. By submitting a Talent Search entry, you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
3.1. The Talent Search is only open to residents with a Leeds postcode excluding:
(a) members of the immediate families of persons who are professionally connected with LWIC, RJC Dance, the Talent Search or its administration; and
(b) in respect of applicants(s) wanting to present at the King and Queen Show, individuals who have paid professional experience in presenting.
3.2. In order to make a valid entry you must enter as an individual using your legal name. If your talent involves more than one individual, you may enter as a group.
3.3. If you are under 16 your parent/legal guardian will be required to give their written consent to your entry.
3.4. In entering the Talent Search, you confirm that you are eligible to do so. LWIC may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter the Talent Search and reserves the right, in its sole discretion to decide whether or not the eligibility criteria has been met. Breach of any criteria contained in this paragraph 3 may result in disqualification and or the withdrawal of the offer to join the LWIC’s presentation team.
3.5. LWIC will not accept Talent Search entries that are:
(a) automatically generated by computer;
(b) completed by third parties or in bulk;
(c) illegible, have been altered, reconstructed, forged or tampered with;
(d) photocopies and not originals; or
3.6. There is a limit of one entry per person. Entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted and joint submissions are not allowed.
- Selection Process
4.1. On receipt of your entry LWIC will send you by email details of the audition to be held on Saturday 13th July 2019 after which a short list will be selected by LWIC’s judges. If you are successful you will be invited to attend a series of Master Classes prior to the final selection.
4.2. The decision of the judges nominated by LWIC is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.
4.3. The successful applicant(s) of the Talent Search following the Master Classes will be announced by LWIC.
4.4. If you are selected but unable to attend the event that you are selected for, your selection is not transferable to a third party.
4.5. No transport or personal expenses will be provided by LWIC during the Talent Search or in respect of your attendance at the King and Queen show or Prince and Princess show. Any other costs incurred by you that are incidental to your selection (including costumes and make-up) are your responsibility.
4.6. No cash payments will be made for your participation in the auditions, Masterclasses, King and Queen show or Prince and Princess show.
- Confidentiality and Publicity
5.1. You agree to keep confidential any information which you know or reasonably ought to know is confidential and relates to LWIC, its activities or the Talent Search.
5.2. You agree that you shall not publicise your involvement in the Talent Search or the fact that you have been selected to join the LWIC presentation team (including giving interviews) except with our prior written consent.
- Ownership of Talent Search entries and intellectual property rights
6.1. All Talent Search entries and any accompanying material submitted to LWIC will become the property of LWIC on receipt and will not be returned to you.
6.2. By submitting your entry and any accompanying material, you agree to:
(a) assign to LWIC all your intellectual property rights with full title guarantee; and
(b) waive all moral rights,
in and to your entry and otherwise arising in connection with your entry to which you may now or at any time in the future be entitled under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 as amended from time to time and under all similar legislation from time to time in force anywhere in the world.
6.3. You consent to LWIC using any photographs or videos of yourself taken during the Talent Search.
6.4. You agree that LWIC may, but is not required to, make your entry and any photographs and or videos taken of you during the Search and or at the King and Queen show and or the Prince and Princess show on its website and any other social media or other media including but not limited to press releases, whether now known or invented in the future, and in connection with any publicity of the Talent Search. You agree to grant LWIC a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable licence, for the full period of any intellectual property rights in the Talent Search entry and any accompanying materials, to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, edit, alter, store, re-format and sub-licence the Talent Search entry and any accompanying materials for such purposes.
- Data protection and publicity
- Health and Safety
8.1. Your participation in the Talent Search or as is at your own risk and your health and safety is your own responsibility. Please ensure before entering the Talent Search that you are in good health. Please ensure that you notify us immediately if you become ill or become aware of any other relevant medical or health and safety information which could affect your participation in the Talent Search. You must comply with all safety requests made by LWIC or its representatives.
9.1. LWIC reserves the right to disqualify you from the Talent Search (without liability or compensation) if you (in LWIC’s opinion, which shall be final):
(a) conduct yourself in a way which exposes you or others to any medical, security, safety or other risk whatsoever (including being intoxicated or abusive in any way);
(b) you are in breach of these terms or any of your obligations, representations and/or warranties under these terms;
(c) your conduct is inappropriate or contrary to the spirit or intention of these terms or the Talent Search;
(d) you have committed or undertaken any fraud, dishonesty, deceit, misconduct or similar action including providing any false or incorrect information;
(e) your act(s) or omission(s) might have an adverse effect on the Talent Search or LWIC.
10.1. If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, LWIC may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the Talent Search.
10.2. LWIC may add to amend and or vary these terms and conditions from time to time at its sole discretion.
10.3. LWIC reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the Talent Search where it becomes necessary to do so.
10.4. The invalidity, illegality, or unenforceability of the whole or any part of these terms and conditions does not affect or impair the continuation in force of the remainder of the terms and conditions.
10.5. These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and the parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
